The Phenomenon Of Kingdom And Provincial Contributions To The Enforcement Of Indonesian Sovereignty At The Beginning Of Independence

In the early days of independence, the newly established Republic of Indonesia faced pressure from the Dutch economic and military blockade. This condition required resource support from the kingdom and the archipelago. This support included collective action by the people of Aceh, the provision of Yogyakarta as a temporary capital, the financial contribution of the Siak Sri Indrapura Sultanate, and the dynamics of the royal elite in Bali, Tapanuli, and West Sulawesi. This study analyzes the patterns, motives, and impact of these contributions on the consolidation of sovereignty and the macroeconomics of the Republic of Indonesia through various approaches. The approaches include state-building theory, social exchange, organic solidarity, and social revolution. The study uses a qualitative approach through a systematic literature review following the PRISMA 2020 framework. The results show that regional support is multidimensional, ranging from the political-symbolic transactions of the feudal elite, which are crucial for fiscal stability, to grassroots mobilization based on social capital, as in Aceh. On the other hand, the resistance of local elites in some regions triggered social revolutions due to class friction. In conclusion, the contribution of the kingdom and the collective participation of local communities are the determining variables that support the economic-political resilience of the early independence. This study underscores the importance of integrating economic history and local social capital into the national historiographic narrative
