Ethical-Clearance

International Journal of Economics, Science, and Education (IJESE) requires that research involving human participants be conducted in accordance with recognized ethical standards and applicable institutional or national regulations. Authors are responsible for obtaining appropriate ethical approval or clearance when required by the nature of their research.

This policy aims to protect the rights, safety, dignity, privacy, and well-being of research participants and to promote responsible and ethical academic research.

1. Requirement for Ethical Clearance

Authors should obtain ethical approval from an appropriate institutional ethics committee, research ethics board, or other competent authority before data collection when research involves:

  • Human participants, including students, teachers, employees, community members, interviewees, or survey respondents.
  • Personal, sensitive, confidential, or identifiable information.
  • Educational interventions, experiments, classroom-based research, or other activities that may affect participants.
  • Research involving vulnerable groups or potentially sensitive topics.

Where applicable, authors should clearly state in the manuscript that ethical approval was obtained and provide the name of the approving institution and approval/reference number.

2. Informed Consent

Participants must be adequately informed about:

  • The purpose and procedures of the research.
  • Their voluntary participation and right to withdraw.
  • How their information and data will be collected, used, stored, and protected.
  • Measures taken to maintain confidentiality or anonymity.

Informed consent should be obtained from participants before their involvement in the research. For participants who are minors or otherwise unable to provide informed consent, consent must be obtained from an appropriate parent, guardian, or legally authorized representative, in accordance with applicable regulations.

Authors should indicate in the manuscript that informed consent was obtained where applicable.

3. Data Privacy and Confidentiality

Authors are responsible for protecting the privacy and confidentiality of research participants. Personal identifiers should be removed, anonymized, or appropriately protected unless disclosure has been explicitly authorized or is ethically and legally justified.

Research data must be collected, stored, processed, and reported responsibly and in accordance with applicable data protection and privacy regulations.

4. Research Without Formal Ethical Approval

For studies in which formal ethical approval is not required or is not available, authors should provide an appropriate explanation and demonstrate that the research was conducted in accordance with recognized ethical principles.

The manuscript should, where appropriate, include an ethical statement explaining:

  • Why formal ethical approval was not required or obtained.
  • How voluntary participation and informed consent were ensured.
  • How participant confidentiality and privacy were protected.
  • How potential risks to participants were minimized.

The editorial board may request additional information or supporting documentation regarding the ethical conduct of the research.

5. Ethical Responsibility in Publication

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research complies with applicable ethical standards before submission to IJESE. Reviewers and editors are also expected to maintain ethical standards, confidentiality, and integrity throughout the peer-review and publication process.

IJESE reserves the right to investigate allegations or concerns regarding unethical research practices and may take appropriate action in accordance with applicable publication ethics standards, including requesting clarification, rejecting a manuscript, issuing a correction, or retracting a published article when necessary.
